As a leader
you will be expected to perform certain functions to help the
squad and its members. These can be anything from leading troops
on the field, holding a training class, helping new recruits and
even some admin duties. As a leader everyone that reports to you
and the people under you are your responsibility. In the 1775th
we have a small command and control of five. This means that nowhere
in our organization does anyone have more that five direct reports.
As you move up in the ranks you will be responsible for more people
but you will still have no more than five direct reports at a
time. This small number of reports is used to try to balance the
fun of being in game with the necessary additional work that is
needed to keep the squad successful. At all times you should know
all of your direct reports and be aware of the entire roster,
what good is a leader that has no idea who they are leading?
Basics
Each and every leader should always have the squad and its members
in mind while they are doing anything that the community or the
members of the squad can see in game. Anyone in a leadership position
should always be active in the forums, making at least two trips
a week to the forums. The leader should always be thinking of
the players first. All leaders should be thinking of the main
goal of the 1775th and how they can support the goal and make
it happen. In order to be a successful leader in this game and
in life you must respect those that you are leading. I would never
ask anyone to do anything that I would not do. I also always try
to be the first in and last out every time at every objective.
The people that follow must respect you in order for you to be
successful. Respect has to be earned, and it takes time. None
became a leader overnight, it takes practice and it takes work.
If you have accepted a leadership position within the squad for
any other reason than to help the players and help in the success
of the squad, than you are in the wrong position. The leaders
here work for the members, and the leaders of the 1775th MUST
provide the members with the leadership that they deserve, which
is the best. We owe our members the best, they give us their best
on the field and we should always be giving them our best on and
off the field.
Awards
It is the responsibility of the leadership to recognize the squad
members that have gone above and beyond to make our missions successful.
Every squad member is eligible for awards, but the awards have
to be submitted. Either in the forums under the AAR section, or
by messages, the leadership needs to know when a member is submitted
for an award. All that needs to be known is: who is being submitted,
what they did and where did they do it.
There are three different classes for each merit award. Each class
is a consecutive award of the 3rd class ribbon. For example, if
a member was put in for the City Defense Award and they have never
received that award before than they would receive the 3rd Class
City Defense Award. On the second occasion that they are awarded
the City Defense Award they would then receive the 2nd Class Award,
and for the third award it would be upgraded to the 1st Class
Award.
Recruiting
Our squad needs continued recruiting in order to maintain a presence
on the battlefield. Each Kompanie has designated Recruiters but
the responsibility of recruiting and filling your open positions
falls directly on you as a leader. Once a new member accepts an
invitation it is the responsibility of the member, the person
who typed the invite to them, to report the name and time zone
of the new recruit in the proper thread in the forums. The proper
thread in the forums is titled “New Recruits” and
is located in the Personnel section of the forums. Failure to
do this causes confusion and takes other leaders out of the game
while they search for answers that were supposed to be given during
the recruiting phase. Please help each other by doing what is
expected and not causing more work for your fellow squaddies.
Troop Management
Each leader is assigned a certain section of the squad. It is
your job to maintain that section of the squad. Each leader should
be reporting twice a week on the status of the members that report
to them. This includes a MIA check. A member is pulled out of
their current position if out of the game more than 30 days. If
the member returns then they are placed back in the squad. To
check the last played date of a member click the stats button
on the left side of the 1775th website and type the players name
in the box.
The success of the squad depends on keeping accurate with the
troops. The leader is also responsible for making sure that the
players in their section are on during the same time that the
leaders are. If people need to be moved it is the responsibility
of the leader to start the move and help the player move to the
section that most benefits the player. Players should be online
with the same group of members that they are assigned with on
the roster.
